PTM

If Monday’s SGH float was a cracker, then Platinum’s one blew it away. It closed today 76% above ($8.80) what it was offered for ($5). Andrew made an amusing comment:

The following is a quote from a post on a discussion forum talking about the PTM float:

Applied for 4000 and got 1160
Had $35k invested in Platinum Asia fund since Aug05
If it reaches $10 it will pay for the plasma tv!!

Maybe I should short PTM and buy Harvey Norman…!!

SGH

Slater & Gordon Limited listed on Monday – the first law firm to ever go public. Its shares have gone up 60% from its offer price of $1. That will teach me to be lazy getting my prospectus application form in :( ILH finally seems to have got over its regulatory problems and is listing in a few months, but it’s quite a different firm compared to Slaters (it’s a lot smaller, for one). Will definitely be interesting to see how shareholder interests interact with the lawyer’s paramount duty to the courts and also to clients…

Pier Tasting Room

The Pier Tasting Room is a section at the front of Pier Restaurant featuring a long plastic table looking across Rose Bay. Unless you’re overlooking the busy part of Sydney harbour (ie, Circular Quay), water views during the night generally are murky and dark.

The Tasting Room menu comprises a set of various tasting dishes ranging from $10-30. Most are smaller than a typical entree course, so the idea is to order several different courses (the average order is apparently is 3-5 dishes). You order a couple at a time – a lot of the dishes (mainly seafood) are raw or close to raw, so they take little time to be prepared and served. The desserts are excellent too (and you get to order more than one because of the serving sizes). Unfortunately the cost adds up quite quickly, so it’s best if you’re in the mood for a nice meal but you’re not particularly hungry. The service is pretty good, and they were happy to offer recommendations which were well selected.

A season for part 3s

Spiderman 3, Pirates 3, Ocean’s 13, Bourne Ultimatum, Rush Hour 3, Shrek 3… crazy movie season ahead. And Die Hard, but that’s a part 4.
